Historical Sketches

A Brief History of the Texas National Guard after World War I

An Introduction to the history of the 49th (Lone Star) Armored Division (1947 - 1963)

Close Assualt 1944 shows the role our Living History Detachment plays in recreating slices of Texas military history. Gives you a tasty preview of what you'll see this coming May during our next Close Assualt 1944.

Video Links

The concept is in the "possibility" stage. But to get it rolling along and maybe attract suggestions on how to proceed with it, we've linked to three videos out on the internet.

The first features Colonel Jimmy Carrigan an F-16 pilot from the 182nd Fighter Group, 149th Fighter Wing. Another highlights the 143rd LRSD training last year in Key West, Florida, and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. The third heralds the 149th MEDEVAC response to Hurricane Katrina.

Stop by. Take a look. Send your recommendations and suggestions.

Videos must be either in the public domain or free of copyright restrictions which forbid embedding links in our Video Links page.

Contributions to the Website

Notice all the history you think we ought to have online but don't? Well, you're right!

Together, we can do something about it. Mostly, all it takes is an idea and a volunteer with a burning desire to get that missing history online. Contact me at gwb@texasmilitaryforcesmuseum.org

We'll discuss how to get your project started and published.
