picture shown below was taken by Joel Cunningham, a medical officer
and Captain Chapin's close friend. The note was written on the back of
the picture and mailed home to his wife, Marie. The note reads:
"Darling
- This is John's helmet - the picture tells the story. I picked him up
that time at the famous Rapido Crossing - with a bullet through
his head - Seems so cruel doesn't it darling."
